Georgetown: Customers of the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) will see improved customer service with the implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
This is according to the Chief Executive Officer, Barat Dindyal, who said this is not just another measure to cut cost, but to make consumption information accessible to both customers and GPL.
Mr. Dindyal added that this system, which will help customers to access information on their power consumption at their convenience, will be available by this year.
Government agencies and utilities are turning to the AMI systems as part of “smart grid” initiatives. The system is popular in countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom.
