GPOC issues Christmas postage deadline

Georgetown : With its full complement of staff, the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) is currently in full operational mode in order to get all Christmas mails to their final destinations in time for Christmas.  This is according to the GPOC Public Relations Officer, Ms. Yolaskee Jervis.
She said that not only has there been a noticeable increase in the volume of mails, which is in fact a customary feature during this time of year, but persons have been bombarding the facilities phone lines in order to enquiry about the deadline for posting Christmas mails and parcels. “We have seen a significant increase in the mails…and this we know is because of the Christmas season; there are more cards and so on and this is expected around this time and we are prepared for this increased workload,” she asserted.
In this regard Jervis said that the GPOC has issued an advisory for the public’s benefit that mails intended for international destinations be mailed no later than tomorrow (December 14) and by next week Wednesday (December 21) for local recipients.  According to her mails sent by the stipulated deadlines stand a better chance of reaching to their respective destinations before Christmas Day.
The Public Relations Officer disclosed too that there are currently no changes in the postage cost revealing that international postage could reach a maximum of $100 while the local cost remains at $20. She explained that although local mails could be delivered within 48 hours those intended for overseas may vary thus the need for customers to adhere to the specified deadlines.
In order to ensure that its service remains optimum, Jervis said that the GPOC usually takes the initiative to ensure that none of its staffers are on leave during this time of year thus the efficient processing of mails is guaranteed. In addition to having the full complement of staff, Jervis said that additional measures are in place to treat with mails if a particular area is laden with a greater than anticipated volume.
Even as the efforts have been reinforced especially for the Christmas season, Jervis said that the GPOC remains “committed to providing the best possible service in the area of mail and parcel post delivery.”
