GRA extends due date for road licence- reports of frustration continue.

Georgetown : The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the due date for motor vehicle road licence to June 30th.

Hundreds of persons felt a sign of relief after hearing of the one month extension. TrakkerNews visited several offices and there continues to be a heavy build up of people waiting for hours to pay for their licence.

At the Guyana Post Office several persons confirmed to this publication that they were left for hours in a line because GRA has no proper system in place and were treated unfairly.

The frustrated people said they line up outside of the building from 6:30am knowing that GPO would open at 8:00am, but wanted to be early so they can get their licence and carry on with their daily duties, however when they got into the building they were shocked to see more that 15 people in front of them at the counter waiting to purchase licence at 8:30 am, another half hour waiting.

TrakkerNews was told that GPO staff was let into the building earlier and took the opportunity to join the line before those waiting outside. What anger the people more is that the staff there were buying licence for other people and charging a fee for their time. Some were buying as much as 10.

At one instance the cashier took two hours to sell three GPO staff licence.

This matter was reported to the office of the commissioner General of GRA Kurshid Sattaur.
