Georgetown- A Partnership for National Unity (A.P.N.U) Presidential Candidate Brigadier (ret) David Granger paid a 4- day visit on 14th-17th October to the North Rupununi. Meeting residents at Annai, Aranaputa and Surama, Mr. Granger promised ‘one laptop per teacher’. This project would ensure that every teacher in Guyana will be given a computer to assist in research and teaching assignments from the time he or she enters the Cyril Potter College of Education.
Mr. Granger was accompanied on his visit by the United Force (TUF) leading executive Mr. Muacir Baretto and Guyana Action Party (GAP) representative Mr. Vincent Henry and PNCR Vice-Chairman, Dr. George Norton. Mr. Granger, Barretto and Mr. Henry, in all of the meetings, emphasised the importance of reforming the education system and retaining trained and qualified teachers to improve education standards countrywide. “Education”, Mr. Granger said, “is the key to reviving the economy, to providing jobs and to ensuring empowerment of the residents of the Rupununi Region and improving the teaching profession is the key to education renewal. Giving teachers computers will help them to enhance the delivery of education.”
Residents in all the villages expressed concern about poor communications and costly transportation. Mr. Granger lamented the fact that a combination of the recent floods, chronic governmental neglect and poor maintenance contributed to the deterioration of roads and bridges connecting most villages. The road to Karasabai and Tiger Pond, for example, had become dangerous to traverse and near impassable in many places.

What is the problem of APNU? WHAT ARE THEY SMOKING?
Recently they wildly offered a promised PAYE tax band of 100,000 dollars after the AFC put out its Action Plan (Manifesto) stating that we will institute a 50,000 tax band. Does any Guyanese believe that the APNU is capable of delivering on its, again, wild promise of 100 % increase in salaries? The AFC has done the figures and involved competent qualified outsiders in their arrival at a promised 20 % increase in public servants’ salaries.
Where is your manifesto and Prime Ministerial Candidate Mr Granger?
Now free laptops per teacher. More promises that will never be delivered because the APNU has degenerated to a distant third place among the three parties and is very desperate for votes at all cost because they will not held to their wild promises because they will loose these elections.
APNU/PNC has a difficult task before them: unless they apologize for their rampant and callous disregard to the Guyanese peoples during their Burnham years of rule, they will never be trusted ever again in Guyanese life. In fact they have overstayed their welcome and are seeking desperate votes to remain a political force in Guyanese politics.
