British Virgin Islands: Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Croix arrested 28-year-old Christian Rojas and charged him with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Child Neglect, according to a BVInews.com report.

Police said Rojas left a loaded handgun within reach of a minor that caused injury to his three-year-old daughter.

Police said, on February 26, they were called to the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital to investigate a gunshot injury to a three-year-old female child that occurred at a residence in Estate Prosperity.

The BVInews.com report said that Police interviewed several persons who were in the vicinity and determined that the suspect, Christian Rojas, did not secure his unlicensed loaded firearm and a three-year-old male was able to take possession of the weapon. The male minor took the gun to an area in the home where Rojas’ minor daughter was playing. The gun fired, grazing the right side of the child’s head.

Rojas was arrested at about 09:30hrs on Thursday, based on a warrant from the Virgin Islands Superior Court.

Rojas bail was set at $25,000 which he was unable to post.

Rojas remains in the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action, the BVInews.com reported.
