Georgetown : The Attorney General (AG) Basil Williams and Legal Advisor of the Finance Intelligent unit (FIU) Alicia Williams were part of a teleconference with representatives of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Representatives of the Americas Regional Review Group (ARRG), and which was scheduled for Thursday, August 27 in Quito, Ecuador. However, because of the 2015 Budget parliamentary debate, the AG requested that Guyana participate via teleconferencing. This teleconference came on the heels of the just concluded CFATF Ministerial meeting in Miami Florida.
An agreed action plan between FATF and Guyana was addressed at the teleconference, and Guyana was congratulated on its effort and commitment, in addressing the majority of the deficiencies identified, after the review by the ARRG.
The Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (Amendment) Act 2015, which was passed in Parliament and assented into law was sent to ARRG, along with the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLCFT) Regulation 2015.These pieces of legislation have ensured that Guyana is now fully compliant with the FATF’s requirements.
The Teleconference with FATF and ARRG Co-Chairpersons on Thursday August 27, 2015 saw participants form Mexico, Spain, Canada, the US Treasury Department and Canada.
