Georgetown: The Guyana Musical Arts Festival will be held from April 29 as the festival is currently accepting entries, the closing date for which is March 29.
According to information garnered from the organising committee, the festival will see competitions in 64 classes: 42 children’s classes; 16 adult classes and 6 which will be open to all ages.
The entry forms are available at the festival’s office at Dewar’s Music School, 221 Charlotte St, Bourda. The office will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 4 pm and 6 pm and persons can also call 226-3052 during those hours for more information
The festival will allow participants of all ages to compete in over 40 categories of artistic endeavor. Participants in this year’s festival must register with the festival office at 221 Charlotte Street, between Oronoque and New Garden Streets, by April 5.
The first music festival was held in 1952 and had a continuous presence until 1975 when it was replaced by Guyfesta.
This is also part of the ministry of culture approach to resuscitate the art of music locally.
