Georgetown: Scores turned out at the Kitty sea wall to observe the celebration of a centenary of aviation in Guyana as seven Brazilian smoke squadrons performed a live air show today.
Spectators, family’s even members of the diplomatic corp. enjoyed the aerial displays.
In 1913, when the young pioneer aviator, George Schmidt flew his boxkite-like aircraft and astounded the people of Georgetown, no one at the time would have conceived that the aeroplane would in time become the livelihood of so many and part of our daily lives.
March, 24, 2013 would mark a significant milestone in Guyana’s rich aviation history. To further celebrate on March, 25 at 17:30 hrs there will be a football and cricket competition at Thirst Park (Banks DIH.) on March, 26 AT 19:00 hrs there will be a quiz on NCN on the 100 years of aviation in Guyana. On March, 28 at 17:00 hrs there will be another aerial display for fallen aviators over Georgetown. And finally on April, 1 at 14:00 hrs there will be a kite flying competition at Transport Ground on Carifesta Avenue.
