Guyana represented at international forum to address drug trade, transnational organised crimes

Georgetown : Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee represented Guyana at the 30th International Drug Enforcement Conference at the invitation of the Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation and the Drug Enforcement Administration of the Department of Justice of the United States of America. The conference was held under the theme, “World against drugs” recently.

The Minister’s delegation included Deputy Commissioner, Guyana Police Force, Seelall Persaud and Head of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit, James Singh.

The forum allows for policy makers and senior law enforcement officials from various countries of the world to discuss and develop additional strategies aimed at countering the illegal trafficking, manufacture and use of illegal drugs, as well as related illegal activities such as money laundering and the unlawful use of precursor chemicals.

 

According to the Government release, Minister Rohee also held bilateral discussions with his counterparts including the deputy minister of internal affairs of the Russian Federation and the Minister responsible for the South African police service.

 

The Minister also met with representatives of the Netherlands and India to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Guyana and those countries.Rohee3
