Woolford Avenue, Georgetown– President of the Guyana Teacher's Union Colin Bynoe, is questioning the move by Government to hire overseas maths and science teachers, claiming the move to be one that raises serious questions. He said that while the Union supports the emphasis on education the message is being clearly sent that the local system seem not to be fitting and this is quite unfair to the teachers and can possibly lead to a lot of frustration. The Government yesterday announced this move citing the exodus of qualified teachers out of Guyana. Bynoe told the press today that the Government must make it clear what the contractual arrangements are for these overseas teachers, noting that nothing must be shy of a level playing field for all teachers. He posited that these teachers should not be paid a higher salary than the locals, since this will result in a serious conflict.
