Georgetown : President David Granger will be representing Guyana at the Fourth Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which will be held in Quito, Ecuador from January 24 to 27.
The President will be accompanied by Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge and Director General, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Audrey Waddell.
Harmon stated that the President has accepted the letter of credence from Ecuador’s – non resident Ambassador to Guyana, Rafael Quintero. President Granger is looking forward to meeting the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa and participating in the event.
The CELAC Summit is an integration body that brings together about 600 million people in 33 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Commonwealth of Dominica and Saint Christopher and Nevis. It is used to promote regional integration and sustainable development.
The Third CELAC Summit took place in Costa Rica in 2015.
