Guyana’s procurement process unique in Caribbean Community-President

President Donald RamotarGeorgetown: Guyana boasts a procurement process that is unique in the Caricom Region and Commonwealth.

This is according to President Donald Ramotar, who said that unlike other countries, cabinet does not award contracts.

Government passed the procurement act in the National Assembly in 2003. This led to the establishment of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board, which is responsible for implementing a regulatory environment, conducive to transparency,  efficiency, openness, fairness and accountability in public sector procurement.

Under this system, cabinet only offers its no-objection to contracts.
