Georgetown: Michelle Cole, renowned Guyanese designer, was the recipient of the ‘Fashion Designer of the Year Award’ by the Young, Gifted & Black (YGB) Awards on Sunday, February 23rd, 2014 in New York City.
The YGB Awards program places an emphasis on individuals that continue to reach levels of success through hard work and determination. There is not a formal selection criterion to receive this award rather, there is a peer-to-peer acknowledgement and appreciation of an individual’s drive for success outlined by where the recipient has come from in life to become an ambassador of the entrepreneurial spirit.
The YGB Awards, launched in honor of Black History Month, recognizes talent, ambition and achievements toward the “Continued Pursuit of Success.” The program honors African-American & Caribbean professionals who are the “unsung heroes” within their communities.
