Guyanese-born, Justice Minnet Hafiz-Bertram, was on Monday sworn in as a Justice of the Belize Court of Appeal by Belize’s Governor General, Sir Colville Young, at Belize House, Belmopan.
Justice Hafiz-Bertram, 51, who is originally from Guyana, has served as a Supreme Court Judge in Belize since 2007. Before her appointment to the Supreme Court, she was the Register General and Registrar of the Supreme Court. She also served for sometime as Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Ministry, a statement from the Belize government said Monday.
Justice Hafiz-Bertram studied law in Guyana and at the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad and Tobago, where she received her Legal Education Certificate in 1997. She later became a member of the Guyana Bar, the Trinidad and Tobago Bar and the Belize Bar. She is well versed both in civil and criminal law.
Justice Hafiz-Bertram’s appointment as a Justice of Appeal takes effect from February 15th, 2013 and will last until she attains the age of 65 years.
