GuyExpo set to be bigger and better with new exhibitors and more booths

AliGeorgetown: Preparations are ongoing for GuyExpo 2013 at the National Exhibition Centre, Sophia, where a walk through was today hosted by Acting Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali and Director of Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) Indranauth Haralsingh. Several sponsors of the event were also on hand to view preparations.

GuyExpo this year has a number of 419 booths spaces, where 95% of the booths have already been sold with over 237 exhibitors for this event. There have been a number of international participants in this year’s event where the largest delegations are from Brazil.

Acting Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali highlighted that the Ministry is confident that everything will be fully ready for GuyExpo opening on Thursday. He added that the Ministry of Public works is completing works on the main bridge and a number of roads leading in and out of the exhibition centre. This is slated to be completed by Wednesday. He added that the internal infrastructure works are 85% completed.

 

“At this year we also have a great international participation from China, India, USA, Argentina, Trinidad, St. Lucia, Suriname and Naipaul. We also have four business delegations that will be attending the expo”, stated Minister Ali. He also alluded to the special business forum slated to be held in collaboration with the Guyana Manufacturers and Service Association (GMSA) because the organisation and the Ministry have been working together with GuyExpo 2013.

“We also have delegations from Brazil. Brazil have a fairly large delegation, about 17 persons coming in, Barbados, St. Vincent and Suriname. This year we have a number of new exhibitors coming on board also we had some new cooperate sponsors all of whom we wish to thank”, Minister pointed out. Minister also acknowledged the support of sponsors such as Demerara Distillers Limited, Banks DIH Limited, Ansa Macal, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Digicel, E-Networks, Tug Brands, Winsor Tech, Impressions, Caribbean Expo Development Agency and Star Party Rentals.

The work of the manufacture was also highlighted by Minister Ali, who said that it shows what is necessary for Guyana to expand its economy. “For example, the hydro electro project and what that can open up for the manufacturing sector, and the services sector for the Marriot, how that can open up the new aspect of the economy”, pointed out Minister Ali. He also made reference to the hospitality school that has boosted the services sector.

GuyExpo 2013 starts on October 3rd and goes until the 6th. The event is celebrated this year under the theme “Advancing Productivity through Innovation, Modernization and Expansion”
