GWI Launches Community Connect Public Outreach Programme

Timothy-AustinGeorgetown:  Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) will host a public meeting with customers of Charlestown and Albouystown on Friday, February, 8, from 16:30hours at the Dolphin Secondary School, Charles and Broad Streets.

The community meeting forms part of GWI’s recently launched 2013 Public Education Campaign. “GWI’s Community Connect” is a public outreach initiative in which customers can interact with GWI officials in order to have their queries resolved.  Community Connect was previously held in December, 2012 at Tuschen, West Coast Demerara and in several communities along the Essequibo Coast .

According to Public Relations Officer, GWI, Timothy Austin, the utility is encouraging customers of Charlestown and Albouystown to take advantage of the community meeting.  “Customers who are busy during the week and unable to contact our call centre or visit our branch offices should take advantage of Community Connect,” stated the PRO, “we are aware that customers of Charlestown and Albouystown have issues with the Sanitation System and their water quality; this is the ideal forum for them to voice all their concerns as our teams will be present to respond.  GWI is a transparent utility and we encourage customers to make known all the challenges they encounter with GWI’s services so that these may be resolved.”

Community Connect will include vital information for Charlestown/Albouystown customers about planned service upgrades as well as the Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP) which will minimize the instances of sewerage overflows experienced by customers in both communities.  In attendance will be senior officials of the utility to address all concerns and queries regarding GWI’s services.

The public outreach initiative forms part of company’s overarching Public Education strategy which also includes a National School Education Programme, “H2O Kidz ‘n’ Action” and a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) which will be launched in February to highlight issues of water conservation, metering, illegal connections, customer service and billing.
