Khan who has been an ACP member for almost a decade called on all Haitians to preserve the constitutional order and reject all violence.

President Moïse, 53, was shot dead in an overnight attack in his private residence in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.  His wife, Martine, was also injured and is receiving treatment.

The entrepreneur and politician was elected in November 2016 and began serving the following February.

Khan has extended his deepest condolences to the people and Government of Haiti, and to the family of the late President.

He said that the ACP and the Reg.3 Private Sector Inc.will continue to stand with the Government and the people of Haiti.

Jovenel Moise has been assassinated

“There is need for a full transparent and an independent investigation into this criminal act,” Khan said. “To kill and assassinate a president in his home just shows the level of insecurity in the country and how no one is exempt from the violence.”

Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas, and has experienced serious political, economic and humanitarian challenges in recent years.

Meanwhile, President Irfaan Ali Wednesday said that he is “shocked and stunned” by the tragic news of the assassination of the President of the Republic of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse.

In a statement he said: “Those responsible for this indefensible and cowardly execution must be brought swiftly to justice.

Political assassination has no place in the contemporary Caribbean. It solves nothing nor resolves anything. Such murderous actions are repugnant to the values of the regional integration movement and incompatible with democratic values and constitutional rule”.

He added that the assassination of President Moïse compounds the already disquieting political and constitutional crisis in Haiti.  Ali said that Guyana will continue to work with the Caribbean Community in seeking to engage with Haiti in order to ensure peace and stability.

“They are concerned by the condition of his wife, the First Lady, Her Excellency Martine Moise, who was gravely wounded in the attack, and wish her a full and speedy recovery”.
