The debate on Estimates began in the House of Assembly with Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler revealing the the re-elected Freundel Stuart administration is injecting over a half billion dollars into the economy.
Half of the money will be new investment and the remainder will be government's contribution to capital expenditure.
"Together with the $355 taken from this new stimulus package and the $300 million from the traditional estimates, we anticpate an injection of $600 in captial works spending. This new stimulus to the Barbados economy will forge additional economic activity and contribute to the rereinvigoration of the construction sector, creating new jobs and growing the economy", Sinckler said.
The Minister stated some of the projects that are being undertaken, among them are phase one of the new cruise pier at the Bridgetown Port and the Pier Head Marina.
"Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) and the Ministry of International Transport are expected to conclude negotiations with developers and investors for an injection of an additional $20 million to start the construction of a new cargo shed at the GAIA", the Minister said.
He added that the Ministry of Transport and Works will forge ahead with a special stimulus road package starting at $80 million with the major road work builders to carry out much needed work in some parishes, which will start late this summer.
