Georgetown : The Ministry of Health has provided two wheel chairs to the Periwinkle Cancer Club for use by persons afflicted with cancer.
The wheel chairs along with walking aids were handed over by Minister of Health Dr. Bheri Ramsaran to Chairperson of the club’s Welfare Sub-committee Nurse Penelope Layne.
Minister Ramsaran reiterated that cervical cancer is still a problem in Guyana, but significant work has been done over the years in creating awareness of the disease. He added that the Health Ministry has created interventions for cervical cancer including the VIA screening.
According to Minister Ramsaran, VIA screening has proven to be very confidential, effective and resourceful for an environment like Guyana and can be done anywhere in the country.
The Periwinkle Cancer Club has joined the Ministry of Health to fight cervical cancer.
Nurse Layne thanked the Minister of Health for donating the two wheel chairs, and for supporting the cancer victims.
