Bridgetown.
Minister of Health, John Boyce says there have been 6 hundred and 76 confirmed cases of dengue fever reported this year, a figure that is three times higher than the number of cases recorded in 2012. There have also been two confirmed deaths from the illness.
As a result of this increase, the Ministry of Health is launching Mosquito Eradication Week, which will run from November 25th to November 29th. The week is under the theme, Search and Destroy, and during a media briefing at the Ministry this morning, Mr Boyce said as a result of the initiative, environmental health officials will be increasing their home inspections and improving their existing public education campaign.
However, he said all Barbadians must play their part to reduce the country’s mosquito population.
