Georgetown: The Health Ministry is being vigilant of reports for signs that horse meat being packaged as beef being shipped to Guyana.
However, Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran noted that there is no indication of any traces of the tainted meat.
Horse meat falsely labeled as beef and other products has been found in several European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden and Norway.
International media reports stated that the scandal was unearthed last month in Ireland and the UK when health officials conducting routine checks found horse DNA in frozen beef burgers.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shamdeo Persaud has been tasked with analyzing the extent of importation of foreign meat supplies.
