Heavy police presence in and around the city – in wake of increasing crime

Georgetown – With the spate of increasing crime over the past months, the Guyana Police Force has stepped up its presence around the city. This morning a heavy presents of security men were visible at both sides of the Demerara Harbour Bridge. Some vehicles were stopped and searched. Many motorists were seen agitated by the delay in the movement of traffic.

The increase in criminal activities has been a great concern for the PPP/C regime, which saw the lost of many lives including Guyanese visitors from abroad.
The Government has budgeted this year a total sum of $15.9 billion to enhance security and justice. This the Government says will result from greater use of information and communications technology, intelligence gathering, operational capacity strengthening, training, improved investigative capability, strengthening community policing and intensified collaboration with regional and international law enforcement agencies.
