High Court upholds Magistrate’s decision to free Murder accuse

Georgetown: Philanthropist and Guyanese businessman residing overseas Marcus Bisram on Tuesday was set free for the second time after High Court Judge, Simone Morris-Ramlall, ordered his release while dismissing the committal for him to stand trial for murder.

His lawyers Sanjeev Datadin and Dexter Todd were at the Camp Street prison to receive him after relapse Tuesday afternoon.

On March, 30, 2020 at the Whim Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Renita Singh discharged the murder charge against Bisram due to the lack of evidence as she upheld a no-case submission made by his lawyers but he was rearrested a few hours later on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions that the Preliminary Inquiry should be re-opened.

However, Bisram’s attorney Sanjeev Datadin submitted that the instructions of the DPP were unlawful and had approached the High Court to have the orders quashed.

Marcus Bisram was extradited from the United States last year to face the murder charge after battles in the US Courts to avoid extradition.

The murder victim, Faiyaz Narinedatt was beaten to death then crushed by a car in Berbice after it was alleged that he turned down advances by Bisram.
