ST JOHN’S, Antigua : A hit-and-run accident in the city yesterday afternoon left an All Saints woman with a fractured left arm, a gaping wound to the forehead and other lacerations to the face and arms.
The motorcyclist, who struck Melissa Phillip-Samuel, fled the scene after he picked up the motorcycle parts and licence plates that detached from the bike during the crash. However, he left the motorcycle on the scene.
The accident occurred at about 4:30 pm on Friendly Alley, nearby the former Labour Department building.
The injured woman was reportedly walking with two relatives when the motorcyclist entered Friendly Alley from Redcliffe Street.
Witnesses said the rider was doing a “wheelie“ stunt on an RR 900 bike, when he slammed into Samuel from behind.
“He came around the corner speeding and hit Melissa and she was thrown into the air,” one relative who was walking with the victim said.
“She hit the concrete fence and then fell onto the sidewalk. In broad daylight he just hit she and get up and run away.”
Meantime, the owner of the motorcycle was taken into custody shortly after the incident, but the man who was riding the bike at the time remained on the run at press time.
