Bridgetown.
Horses in Barbados are being abused more than before, chief inspector with the RSPCA Wayne Norville, has placed the blame on racehorses for the abuse being suffered by horses.
Norville told Trakker News raceshorses are discarded by their owners after they are no longer making money, quite often these horses are given to young men who over work them without providing basic animal rights such as adequate food, water, shelter, rest and medical attention.
According to Norville some of these horses are eventually left to die, while others become safety hazards. He says legislation must be put in place to hold racehorse owners more responsible for their actions.
