Georgetown : The Hospitality Institute, which aims to build capacity for Guyana’s developing tourism sector is on the cards for 2016, said Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Donald Sinclair. He added that this initiative is part of the National 2016 Budget.
Sinclair confirmed that a consultant will be visiting Guyana to assist in advancing the project.
The institute will be used to develop a customer service industry in Guyana. This would empower not only persons working in restaurants, hotels and bars, but taxi and bus drivers, and all those who interface with visitors and locals, especially at ports of entries.
According to Sinclair, the intention is to build on what already exists through the Carnegie School of Economics, which will also be playing a significant role in developing capacity in the customer service industry. Carnegie is currently offering the kinds of services demanded by the institute.
