Port Of Spain; Good Friday will not be the same without the traditional Hot Cross Buns. Bakeries reported booming sales as customers flocked to the stores throughout the entire day up to late yesterday evening. Most households held on to tradition with the consumption of these buns with their cross being a symbol of the crucifixion.
The bakery owners expressed pleasure with the response from the public and said sales were phenominal despite some compliant about high prices, which ranged from between $3 to $3.50 for one. Most bakers had sold approximately 200 each hour, so they were kept very busy. Many reported that by midday they had sold over 5,000 buns. There is no question that most families will be happy today as they enjoy their buns.
