Georgetown: Erwin Bacchus, the owner of the Tourist Villa Hotel, located at Fifth Avenue Subryanville, Kitty was Wednesday granted $1.5M bail for the unlawful killing of his neighbour, Jason De Florimonte on August 4.
Bacchus of Fifth Avenue Subryanville appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with the offence of manslaughter.
The businessman was represented by Attorneys-at-Law Nigel Hughes and Glenn Hanoman. In his bail application, Hughes said he client acted in self-defence.
The Court was told that at his hotel, Bacchus shot and killed his neighbor Jason De Florimonte after the 30-year-old man ran into the hotel chasing the hotels’s handyman.
The handyman was reportedly targeted by De Florimonte after he tried to intervene in a violent row between De Florimonte and his girlfriend.
It was in the hotel that De Florimonte reportedly got into a confrontation with the hotel owner. He was shot multiple times to the body by the owner who is a licensed firearm holder.
The businessman’s Attorney told the Court that his client acted in self-defence since the now dead man, had been armed with a knife and was threatening him and his handyman.
The Attorney said the businessman fired two warning shots before eventually shooting the armed neighbour as he chased after the handyman.
