Hotels anti union

Bridgetown

Research by Joyann Inniss, a delegate of the National Union of Public Workers shows that the hotel industry in Barbados is anti trade union.

According to Inniss, her findings so far suggestsed  hotel managers are of the view that unionized workers tended to rock the boat.

Speaking at the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) delegates meeting over the weekend, Inniss said that there were still many non unionized hotel workers because several employees were afraid of losing they jobs in they joined the union.

Inniss said while hotel managers did not encourage workers to join unions, there was no evidence of managers discouraging any worker from joining a union either.

She added that hotel manager have said they have found members of trade unions caused grievances by looking for more issues than those not in a trade union.

Her research was conducted in occupational psychology and specifically the hote industry's attitude to unions.
