Georgetown: At the stroke of midnight the power went off and lasted over three hours, causing deep discomfort and fear to consumers, particularly when there is almost a daily robbery. The state owned power company has been grappling with maintenance causing immeasurable frustration to consumers with the constant power outages. Currently as this report is being written the power is off. Trakkernews was told that two generating sets are down and currently under repairs. Yesterday two US$18.3M 8 generator sets arrived at the John Fernandes Wharf intended for the Kingston power plant. Although the additional sets are expected to boost the company's performance it is not clear whether the constant blackouts will cease. The company confirmed that even with more generating sets with 10MW capacity are expected to arrive, the power situation is likely to stabilize by mid next year.
