Georgetown: The Ministry of Housing continues to foster partnerships with private sector companies in their bid to ensure the Guyanese move from easy access to affordable housing to realizing their dream of home ownership.
Towards this end, Harris Paints and the Housing Ministry, Tuesday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will enable low and moderate income allotees to purchase paints at a discounted rate of 7%.
Alluding to the implications of this arrangement, Housing Minister, Irfaan Ali said, “I am happy once again to be associated with another activity that embraces the Central Housing and Planning Authority’s (CHPA) focus on development through partnership. We are embracing this approach towards seeking the best prices and housing solutions especially for low income earners.”
Ali lauded the staff of the CHPA who have played a critical role in negotiating the one year agreement that will see Harris Paints offering a 7% discount to all low income earners.
This most recent agreement comes on the heels of several other MoUs which were signed with National Hardware Guyana Limited and Toolsie Persaud Limited, allowing low to middle income families the chance to purchase building and construction material at reduced prices.
Taking it another step further, the Minister hinted at the possibility of similar such agreements with furniture companies which will extend beyond the construction and home ownership stages.
