Georgetown: The Housing Ministry has partnered with a private sector company to allow for the construction and occupancy of homes across the country.
Similar such agreements have been made with several companies, including Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL), Toolsie Persaud Limited to benefit low and moderate income Guyanese in their quest to build their homes.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was inked on Monday at the Housing Ministry with National Hardware Guyana Limited (NHL) which will `allow low, moderate, and middle income families to acquire building materials and home furnishings at wholesale prices from the hardware store.
Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali explained that National Hardware has been an important partner with his Ministry and will now extend their reach beyond the provision of home building materials.
“This is a perfect reflection of public private partnership in the building and construction sector. This applies for low moderate and middle income home builders which includes a significant percentage of young people. National Hardware has been a key player in the building and construction centre and hope they can continue to expand to bring greater benefit to the Guyanese people,” Minister Ali explained.
The Director National Hardware Guyana Ltd, Nickolas Boyer expressed the company’s pleasure to be a part of this initiative and assist with Guyana’s development, and explained that building items and home furnishing items will be sold at wholesale prices.
This offer extends to core homes and turnkey homes.
Minister Ali maintaind that his ministry and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), will continue to partner with Private Sector companies to ensure citizens move beyond allocation of lots to home ownership.
