Georgetown : The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has to date identified more than 6000 pensioners on its customer base that will benefit from Government’s annual provision of $20,000 as assistance for the payment of electricity charges. The company has received a list of 12,000 pensioners from Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 from the Ministry of Human services.
According to Human Services Minister Jennifer Webster, the plans now are to invite these pensioners to GPL to work out details relating to issues such as their correct residence as it was found that some of the addresses that the ministry has for the pensioners are not matching what GPL has.
GPL reported that they have been having some issues with regards to matching the names of the pensioners with the addresses. However, they have sought guidance from the Guyana Water Inc., (GWI) with regards to their procedure, and as of next week the company will be calling in the pensioners to start their verification process.
Pensioners are advised to take along their Identification card and proof of address.
It is hoped that within another month, the process will be finished and the pensioners will benefit from the subsidy that will be an annual benefit afforded to pensioners by Government.
