I will not apologize says union boss

Bridgetown.

General Secretary of the Barbados Workers' Union Sir Roy Trotman, says he will not apologize for calling managing director of Diamonds International Jacob Hassid  an "Egyptian Jew".

The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), has heavily criticised the veteran trade union leader saying no one should be made to feel uncomfortable because of their race or religion.

Sir Roy says he would call a spade a spade if he felt employers were trampling on the rights of the workers.

"If I have said something that has offended anyone, show me where the offence is, when I see the offence, I am big enough to apologize for it", he said.

He expressed his disappointment at the BCCI response to the issue, adding that if the BCCI  understanding of what was taking place was what he was supposed to rely on, "then we have a very serious problem in understanding labour/ management relations.
