Illegal dumping in Bridgetown

Bridgetown.

The Sanitation Service Authority (SSA)  is appealing to city dwellers to stop the illegal dumping.

SSA officials says despite their consistent efforts to keep districts in Bridgetown clean, some residents there are persisting with the bad habit of illegal dumping in the nation's capital.

One of the outreach initiatives undertaken by the SSA was a town hall meeting which was scheduled for Sunday. However, none of the residents turned up.

SSA officials took the media on a tour of the ' dumping hotspots ' in the city such as Wellington Street, Cypress Street, Nelson Street and Beckwith Street.

Operations manager at the SSA, Michael Nicholls described the situation as unhealthy for both residents and workers.

Meantime many residents, who wanted to remain anonymous, voiced their concerns noting some of the vagrants were paid by other residents and strangers to dump garbage after the trucks had passed.
