Georgetown: The Alliance for Change (AFC) Party is calling the recent removal of its campaign banners and billboards a centrally coordinated effort. Officials of the party revealed that based on information reaching the party, Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn had directed that the banners and billboards be torn down and demolished.
However, Minister Benn when contacted said that the AFC was practicing “scaremongering” and that they were informed of the course of action before hand. He added that no permission was sought by the AFC for the erection of the campaign paraphernalia. He said too that the Ministry has been removing banners from across highways and is not targeting any particular party, adding that even officials of the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) had sought clarifications as to why banners were pulled down.
“They too were informed that the Ministry was taking the course of action in the interest of public safety,” the Minister said pointing out that “if the AFC wants they can collect their banners and erect them around the city because that would not affect roads in the city.”
