A pay increase for civil servants in Barbados would have a harmful effect on Government's finances says Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the first Summer Insitute held by the Barbados Union of Teachers (BSTU), in assocation with the Canadian Teachers Federation and the Ministry of Education an Human Resource Development at the Deighton Griffith School yesterday, Jones thanked unions for not pressing the Government for a salary increase for civil servants.
"Any pressure whatsoever in relation to wages and salaries would have a very detrimental effect on the fiscal policy of Barbados and would possibily have impacted on your salaries, once Barbados becomes downgraded all hell will be unleashed", Jones said.
