The index of retail prices for March 2013 stood at 165.0 points, representing a decrease of 0.5 per cent when compared with the 165.8 points recorded in February this year.
Increases of 0.8 per cent were recorded for fuel and light and medical and personal care, while transportation dropped by 0.3 per cent.
Decreases were recorded for food by 1.2 per cent; clothes and footwear by 0.9 per cent; housing by 0.8 per cent and alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.2 per cent.
The indexes for household operations and supplies and education, recreation and miscellaneous both remained constant over the period.
Between March 2012 and March 2013, the index of retail prices increased by 1.0 per cent, from 163.5 to 165.0 points. The average inflation rate for the 12 month period March 2012 to March 2013 was 3.0 per cent.
