Antigua: The Annual of Inflation was measured at 3.9 percent in December, 2011 and food prices increased by 3.8 percent during the period of December, 2010 to December, 2011.
The most increase came under Food and Energy because when it is removed from the All Items index, the inflation rate is 2.6 percent. The monthly price changes in the Food category showed a 1.8 percent increase in December 2011 compared to November 2011 resulting from an increase in the meat sub-group.
The Fuel and Light index increased by 10.6 percent due to an increase in the fuel variation rate from $0.63 in December, 2010 to $0.74 in December, 2011. The price of gasoline rose from $12.10 to $14.99 during the same period which also resulted in an increase in the Transportation and Communication category which registered a 6.2 increase.
Alcoholic Drinks and Tobacco recorded an increase of 1.2 percent over the same period.
