Georgetown: Parents were urged to educate and instill moral values and ethics in their children while they were encouraged to pay keen attention to the activities in which their child/children are engaged in, especially the people they associate with.
This was underscored when Commander “G” Division (Essequibo Coast, Essequibo Islands) Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram along with ranks from the Community Relations Office conducted a recent Parent Day Workshop.
The event was held at the Anna Regina Secondary school auditorium.
Topics discussed were; Indiscipline, Abuse of Alcohol and Narcotics in Schools, the Sexual Offences Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.
In addition, the parents were informed of the programs being conducted by the Police in the community which can foster better upbringing of their children.
There are the Police Scout Group, the Cops and Faith Community Network, the Suicide Helpline and the Creation of the Open Spaces Project.
They were encouraged to have their children join the Scout Groups. Other presentations were done by Blossom Inc., Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Protection and Teachers of the Anna Regina Secondary School.
This event was organized by the Anna Regina Secondary School Parent/Teacher’s Association and 60 parents were in attendance.
Additionally, youths of the Anna Regina / Henrietta Legend Police Youth Group were treated to a Video Show which was held at the Anna Regina Court Room on another occasion and it was organized by Group Leader Rural Constable Satish Singh.
The Movie shown was based on the importance of every family member in the household.
The activities continued when the youths were lectured on common courtesy.
Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram noted that decreasing levels of morals, manners and basically good behaviour have played a major role in raising levels of unemployment.
As such, he noted lectures were done to youths on several occasions.
