The General Insurance Assocation of Barbados (GIAB) has issued a call for stiffer penalties against road traffic violators. The GIAB has suggested that driver no longer be given 24 hours to produce their licence and proof of their insurance after an accident.
" If you cannot produce these things at the scene of the accident, until this documentation comes, we are suggesting that your car be impounded because people give fraudulent names and can say they are insured with any insurance company, after that they don't go to the police to give the infromation", says GIAB vice president Anton Lovell.
According to Lovell, while motor vehicles accidents are costing insurance companies substantial payouts there would be no hike in premiums.
