Internationally renowned Guyanese cardiovascular surgeon lending his expertise to the public health system

 

Georgetow– Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, Canada Heart Surgeon visits Guyana on outreach program.

Guyanese born, Dr. Kishan Narine is currently visiting Guyana on an outreach of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (CGAGS) with support from the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.

Dr. Narine, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Associate Professor at the Libin Institute previously held the position of Adjunct Clinical Head, Cardiac Surgery and Surgical co-director of Heart Transplantation at the University of Ghent.

His clinical focus is adult cardiac surgery with additional sub-specialization in heart transplantation, artificial hearts, mechanical circulatory support devices and minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

While in Guyana Dr, Narine will be participating in the training of Guyanese residents in a CGAGS partnership with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and at the same time will be visiting both the facilities of GPHC and Caribbean Heart Institute, which is also located in its compound with a view of exploring initiatives to further improve all aspects of cardiac care in Guyana.

 

The Doctor who originally hails from Port Mourant, Berbice is an internationally recognized expert in heart failure and heart valve surgery and has authored and co-authored numerous peer reviewed publications.
