ST JOHN’S, Antigua : An early morning break-in at GET Enterprises Service Station on Monday was botched when the suspected burglar was caught in the act and shot in the chest.
However, police are yet to determine whose firearm discharged the bullet that struck the suspected criminal Keithroy Black Jr in the chest.
Sources said another assailant discharged a gun when lawmen responded to the report of the break-in at the service station – also known as Brother B’s – located on Queen Elizabeth Highway.
A civilian, who is licensed to carry a firearm, and a police officer discharged their weapons, sources said.
Police issued a statement on the matter yesterday in which it said, “(Lawmen) responded to a break-in in progress at the said business place, and when they arrived a man armed with a crowbar exited the building and attacked the police and was shot in the process.”
However, when asked to clarify “who” shot Black, Police Strategic Communications officer Senior Sergeant William Holder said, ”The statement issued is all we are prepared to say at this point since the investigation is still ongoing.”
According to the police statement, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) took the injured man to Mount St John’s Medical Centre where he remained in stable, but serious condition at press time.
