Georgetown: The local drug enforcement agency and CID police are carefully monitoring all avenues of an all out drug war which they believe is possible in the wake of a US 5 Million dollars cocaine bust at Bartica yesterday. A source involved in the investigation has related information that this cocaine like many others in the past has big drug connections behind it stretching through the Eastern Caribbean areas. The cocaine was found concealed in false bottoms of plastic containers aboard a vessel out in the Cuyuni River. Some 204 kilograms were found estimating just about 1 billion Guyana dollars.
Several persons were taken into custody including Guyanese and foreigners. Over the past month authorities busted cocaine operation in the country putting Guyana once again as a top priority in the drug trade. Local and foreign agencies are closely monitoring the movements of certain supects who they believe are involved in the recent busts.
