Jagdeo says charges against former Government officials are baseless

Georgetown : Opposition leader Bharrat Jagdeo during a press conference yesterday said public servants should make a record of harassment by Government officials when it comes to being told to do things on their job that are deem illegal. He cited that in Region Five, in the county of Mahaica/Berbice at the Hugo Chavez center, workers there are being pressured by Cabinet members to issue contracts to specific persons. The former president says that based on reports reaching his office if these instructions are not carried out, their jobs will be at stake.

Jagdeo comments came after he pointed out that former Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh and former chief executive officer of the National Industrial and commercial investment Limited (NICIL) were charged with misconduct in public office.

The opposition leader claims the charges are baseless and if the same formula is to be used for the present administration, the entire cabinet will be before the courts. He said there is a strong eye out on two Ministries, Public infrastructure and Natural Resources for reported large scale acts of corruption.
