A 18 year old Jamaican national was given a deportation order when he appeared in the St John’s Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh yesterday.
Shaquille Swack pleaded guilty to two counts of breaking and entering.
According to reports, the manager of the establishment secured the building at about 12:30 am on February 6 and left. When he returned at 8:15 pm, he discovered the place had been broken into.
Initially, there were no signs of forced entry, but upon further observation a southern kitchen window which had been closed at the end of the business day was found opened, and the cash register tampered with.
On that occasion, the accused made off with $63.50 worth of goods.
Swack entered the St Mary’s Street business a second time on April 4, However,before he was able to escape with his loot costing over $500, he was stopped in his tracks.
The owner received a notification at about 1:25 am of an intrusion via an alarm system which was activated, and went to the business place with his two sons.
On their arrival, they found an eastern window open, and lying outside were pieces of clothing and a pair of slippers. Additionally, the lights were on, and a young man identified as the defendant, dressed only in his boxers, was carrying several items in his hands.
He was subsequently apprehended, the police were called, and he was arrested and charged.
Swack has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison and is scheduled to leave the jurisdiction on Friday.
