Jamaican team completes rape probe involving Top Cop

Georgetown: Having completed their investigation into the allegations of rape against Guyana’s Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene, a team of Jamaican investigators have left these shores.  They arrived in Guyana about one week ago.

According to Acting Police Commissioner, Leroy Brummel, the findings on the investigation are expected to be sent this week to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

President Ramotar at press briefing last week said that he was not in receipt of any report from the Jamaican team as it relates to their findings. It was the President who had sought to invite an external team to investigate the matter in order to ensure that the matter was dealt with fairly.

Reports are that the investigating team had interviewed the 34-year-old woman at the heart of the allegations before putting the said allegations to the Commissioner. The team had also visited a hotel which is said to be the place where the rape occurred.

It was during the latter part of last year that a 34-year-old woman had revealed to sections of the media that the commissioner had committed the unlawful act. Greene had proceeded on leave late last year pending the investigation.
