Georgetown: After a call made by Former President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo for A Partnership For National Unity’s James Bond to be charged because of what he perceived to be an infraction on the part of the APNU Member pertaining to a Facebook posting; officials at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) noted that Bond did not break any of Guyana’s laws when he posted on social media that 94% of the disciplined services voted in favour of the APNU+AFC on Saturday, May 02, although the ballots are yet to be counted.
Jagdeo at a PPP rally on Sunday May 03, is quoted as saying “It is illegal and we have to charge him now. We have to charge him and send a signal to this country….if we don’t put a stop to it, on Elections Day, there shall be consequences….and so I ask the people who are entrusted by our Constitution and our laws to make sure that our elections are organised properly in this country. That we do not sit and become complacent and view these attempts as isolated and average, but how do we deal with these illegal attempts leading up to the elections to subvert the polls will do a lot with what takes place on Elections Day.”
