Georgetown: Bollywood singers Jeffrey Iqbal and Gunjan Singh arrived in Guyana yesterday ahead of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s Diwali Utsav which will be held on Saturday October 26th at the Guyana International Conference Centre.
They are both excited to perform for their fans in Guyana and promise an amazing selection of the songs which they have prepared specially for this show. In addition to his singing, Jeffrey will also give some of those energetic and rocking dance moves which he have made him so popular with the young fans.
Tickets for the show have been selling like hot cakes and the Sabha is urging fans to get theirs early. These are available at the Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra in Prashad Nagar, Red Mango – Robb Street, Bhagwan’s –Water Street, E-Networks- Camp Street and the Murti Shop, West Coast Demerara.
Also performing at Diwali Utsav will be Guyana’s outstanding dance troupe, the Dharmic NrityaSangh and singers Sookrane Boodhoo, Mona and Rekha Singh. Musical accompaniment will be given by immensely talented musicians from Mumbai and Guyana. This will be both Gunjan and Jeffrey’s second trips to Guyana. Last year they performed with Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal respectively and were immensely popular with the Guyanese audience.
Gunjan has had a multifaceted career, with a number of chart-topping songs. She was the winner three years in a row of the All India (National) Award, has performed extensively on the international stage and was the main artist on the sound track of one of the most successful films ever ‘Bend It Like Beckham’. She has sung for in excess of 20 albums, most of which went Platinum within six weeks and Triple Platinum within 12 months. Her song “Kawan” became a massive hit all over Europe and North America and was voted “Track of the Year 2005” by BBC Asian Network. She has performed several times for BBC events in the UK. Among her popular songs are her remix numbers for Bally Sagoo – Bindiya ChamkeGi, Noorie, AapkiNazron ne Samjha, Kabhi Aar kabhiPaar, AajPhirJeene Ki and her original songs – KinnaSohna, Kawan, Nachle and NaiyonDilLagda. Her most recent song is ‘introducing Gul’from the film Sooper se Oooper under the music direction of Sonu Nigam.
Gunjan has travelled across the globe doing sold out shows with Sonu Nigam. She has also been featured in Sonu’s album “Rafi Resurrected” singing beautifully ‘Mujhe Teri Mohabbat’. She has a wide repertoire and is equally comfortable with the melodies of yesteryear as she is with today’s chart-topping dance numbers.
US born Jeffrey Iqbal’s career on the world stage began when he was chosen in a talent search by the legendary music director AR Rehman from among thousands of applicants to perform at Rehman’s mega concert in New York. Thereafter, Jeffrey entered ZEETV’s US version of Saregamapa, emerging as the first runner up and gaining direct entry into India’s Saregamapa show. In 2012, he was invited to tour with Bollywood’s current playback Queen Shreya Ghoshal and he performed in Canada, USA, UK and the Caribbean. He left audiences everywhere wanting more. Jeffrey is currently working in his own album “Sukoon” which will be released shortly.
Showtime is 19:00hours, gates open at 17:00hours. In addition to the fabulous stage programme, patrons will have an opportunity to do some pre-Diwali Shopping, have their mehndi done and enjoy some delicious local and authentic Indian cuisine. As with all of the Sabha’s events, no alcohol will be allowed.
Tickets for the event cost $5000 for stage front numbered seating and $2000 for reserved numbered seating. Paid parking is also available within the compound of the Conference Centre at a cost of $1000.
