Linden : Over the weekend a drug eradication operation was conducted jointly involving ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch and the Guyana Defence Force, with the use of an helicopter, in the Millie’s Hideout area along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
An area comprising about 12 acres of cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants was found under cultivation. The fields had approximately 80,000 plants, some at a height of about 11feet. The fields of marijuana plants along with two abandoned camps were destroyed.
A .22 Taurus revolver along with 3 shotgun cartridges and a cell phone were found in one of the camps.
A motor vehicle was searched along a trail in which 550 grams of marijuana were found. Four men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations. The motor vehicle has been detained.
